Education and Training Centre Landscape

The Bureau of Meteorology Training Centre landscape is an integral part of this learning environment. Outdoors activities such as weather balloon releases, project preparation and other observations occur on the campus grounds. We designed landscape elements to support the outdoors learning activities and to encourage the use of external space for social learning activities, notably around the BBQ. The site has significant views of Melbourne towards the south, and the city skyline is framed by the landscape walls.

The existing site is peppered with infrastructure and equipment (pylons, towers and radars) and the new landscape elements use this language in scale, form and material for shade structures and an entry canopy.  These elements are wrapped with a bold orange colour reminiscent of the Antarctic research bases (which this building serves).
