Swinburne's Virtual Universe
Swinburne’s Virtual Universe is a project for two key stakeholders - the Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing and the Department of Film, Games and Animation - at Swinburne University of Technology. The project is a large immersive 3D capable screen (21m long x 3.4m high) and is intended to accommodate multiple user groups at the University with its powerful ability to support teaching, learning and research visualisation. The screen will also be used as a Virtual Production Studio for film makers and includes 2 adjsutable services trusses to accommodate lighting, speakers and props.
As the entire room is a full height screen on three walls, the entry to this room became an opportunity to highlight a threshold into an other realm. The entry doors are inscribed with a celestial moment where two pulsars interact prior to colliding. The centre of these is a window portal referencing the circles motif in the ATC building where the facility resides.
