Albert Park Primary School

We have been assisting Albert Park Primary School with a range of projects including a Landscape/playspace masterplan, outdoor learning environments, shade structures and feasibility plans.

The School has 530 students on a very constrained urban campus which is shared with the community as an outdoor play area. The masterplan has involved engagement with the school community (teachers, students and the local neighbours) with a matrix of preferences and needs which are formulated into an overall strategy for the limited available open area. The approach has been to develop an external space strategy which will inform the location of future buildings, rather than the opposite approach where spaces are ‘left over’ between buildings.

Providing a variety of outdoor spaces for quiet outdoors learning, and engagement with nature and a revitalised kitchen garden are a priority for this project. The ‘paradise’ redevelopment is designed as an outdoors classroom where students can be arranged in groups around planter beds.
