Community Housing
This design project provided a cluster of 2 bedroom homes on a double block in a diverse 20th century suburban street. The houses are arranged to create semi-private communal space between the homes which have direct lines of sight from each of the living and kitchen areas. The proposal works with the existing language of the street with an overscaled white 'weatherboard' colourbond cladding together with brickwork combinations reflecting the diversity within the street.
The rooflines of the pavilions are oblique to mimic the large hipped rooves of the adjacent houses. The pavilions are a dispersed version of the oversized homes built on surrounding property with significant landscaping and private open space in between.
