Monash University Health Services
The Monash University Health Service is a busy multi-purpose clinic on Monash's Clayton campus which provides GP consulting rooms, Counselling and Allied Health, Pathology, Dentistry and a common Reception/ Waiting with separate private emergency access.
After preparing and reviewing a series of design options, the project took advantage of spaces left over in the Student Union building which has seen multiple additions over the years.
The Dental surgery, complete with a practice management and waiting area, 2 dental chairs, an OPG and Lat Ceph Xray facility, Steri room and associated plant, was all contained within an old courtyard allowing dramatic tall spaces with ample natural daylight as required by the Dentist.
The common reception and waiting areas are treated as a warm intimate space with protected views to the exterior, addressing privacy and workflow for all elements of the Health service including emergency treatment. Student and staff wellbeing is a critical focus of the university for its 25000+ students and the spaces in the Health services are designed to de-institutionalise the health service functions.
