Werribee Sensory Lab

CSIRO’s Sensory Laboratory for the Agriculture and Food laboratories group includes 12 sensory test booths, a food preparation kitchen, group testing area and a clinical room. The facility also has new office work space with storage and other associated laboratory works required for the relocation of the research stream and staff.

The lab is designed in accordance with ISO 8589 for Sensory Analysis test rooms and to Biosecurity containment standards (for Department of Agriculture Water and Environment) as a Quarantine Approved Premises.   The lab is designed with a minimal colour palette as required by the ISO standard together with colour tuneable LED lighting in booths to allow for masking of food samples.

The specific nature of the muted colour of the test lab is emphasised with an opposing highly coloured joinery installation in the test kitchen, clearly delineating the two sides of the lab.  The spatial relationships designed allow for flexibility of use and a flow between group briefing and testing or individual testing with clinical room for subject testing.
